Writing my journey
Last time, I mentioned that I’m a writer. I can discuss it in a general sense without outing myself. I have eight traditionally published books to my name. I’ve garnered a few international award nominations and even been on the New York Times bestseller list after co-authoring with a man you would know.
Writing is as intrinsic to my being as my Jewish journey, and I started working on a new novel in tandem with my spiritual search as a way to express my feelings through art. The book is about a Jewish couple, one a convert, whose marriage falls apart due to infidelity. But the book isn’t about infidelity so much as it’s about preserving Jewish values and Jewish identity. It’s letting me express myself as a man longing for a place.
I opened this blog with a bit from Ruth 1:16. Here’s the full quotation I love so much:
“Entreat me not to leave you, and to return from following after you; for wherever you go, I will go; and where you lodge, I will lodge; your people shall be my people, and your god my god; where you die, I will die, and there will I be buried; the LORD do so to me, and more also, if anything but death part you and me.”
That is my pledge and the pledge of my character. I am living within my adopted faith among my chosen family. And I do it through word, deed, and writing every day.
